Amabel Quiñones

I, Dr. Amabel Quiñones, earned my Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from Carlos Albizu University in Puerto Rico. Since 2002 I have been working in diverse outpatient settings including private practice, private and public-school systems, and Early Head Start programs helping children and their families. I have been working with OCOF since 2018. My clinical work focusses on providing evidence-based assessment and treatment for children and adolescents. Also provides psychoeducation to parents in order to understand and manage effectively their children's social and emotional needs. I have experience treating a variety of concerns ranging from behavioral problems, ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, parent skills training, and relationship issues. I primarily practice cognitive behavioral therapy. Through the understanding that feelings and emotions stem from an individual's interpretation of events, therapy is directed to identify unhelpful thinking styles and how they may generate distressing emotions and maladaptive behaviors. I have experience providing infant mental health services for children between the ages of 0-5. I provide assessment and treatment of young children focused on strengthening parent-child relationships, teaching coregulation skills, and improving their social and emotional development. I am a member of The Florida Association of Infant Mental Health.

Vaaseen Richards

Vaaseen Richards

My name is Vaaseen Richards and I am a Senior Community Behavior Health Practitioner at Our Children Our Future. I am a registered Mental Health Counselor Intern for the State of Florida and a National Certified Counselor. I attended Florida Institute of Technology where I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Psychology; in addition to a certification in Child Advocacy Studies. From there I continued on to receive my Master’s degree from University of Rochester in Mental Health Counseling in 2018. During my time in the field, I have worked in various levels of outpatient care, the school system, and provided in-home care; through these experiences I have gained a better understanding of the various factors which contribute to a child’s emotional distress. I currently specialize in providing Trauma-Focused care to both children and adolescents whom have experienced or are currently experiencing any form of trauma such as school bullying, loss of a loved one, abuse/neglect, and so forth. I utilize evidenced-based practices such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to assist children and their families in gaining insight into their personal traumatic experiences, re-establishing safety, and developing the use of healthy coping strategies.
